What is needed to do Affirmations?
The cool thing about affirmations is you don’t need any special equipment to make this effective spiritual practice.
Paper and tape. Or a notepad on your phone. That’s about it.
Oh! And a way to create new affirmations for yourself. (You’ll learn this process later in the book.)
I like to write the affirmations I’m working with on an index card or print them on paper from my computer.
The tape is for hanging copies of the affirmations in strategic locations. The main spot is the wall right by the side of your bed so it’s in clear view on rising and sleeping. This way you don’t need to remember to do anything because the affirmation is right where you can see it. Its presence is your reminder.
I also suggest hanging additional copies elsewhere if you’re home life will easily accommodate these editions:
- bathroom mirror
- refrigerator door
- wall above your desk
- inside of the front door
- door to going into the backyard
- car dashboard
In other words, hang copies where you frequently go or finding yourself standing in your home.
However, this freedom isn’t available to everyone. That’s where the notepad on your phone comes in handy. Type in your affirmation and reach for your phone when it’s time.
Then, instead of a written affirmation, in the various locations put a reminder for yourself. For example, a stone, a picture, or a flower vase placed strategically. Or wear a bracelet or a necklace or even a rubber band as reminder. Anything which can remind you to say your affirmation.
Another organizational tool is an affirmation journal dedicated solely to your affirmation practice. keeping a journal creates a great touchstone to remember your affirmations and track your progression through multiple affirmations.
The main point: keep it simple.
Increasing complexity gets in the way of incorporating affirmations as an ongoing habit and practice.
This is a short piece I have written for a new book on Affirmations. Read more in this column: A View from the Boundlessness.
